You’re at the hospital…what now?
When you go to the ER at any of these hospitals and inform them you are there for a Sexual Assault Nurse Examination (SANE), also called a forensic exam, they will take you back to an ER room.
Our role is to accompany survivors of sexual assault at the hospital and provide information, resources, and immediate crisis support. DARCC advocates offer emotional support and compassion before, during, and after a medical forensic exam.
Can I go to any hospital emergency room to receive a rape kit exam?
It’s important to know that not all hospitals have the resources or trained professionals to conduct medical forensic exams (or SANE exams). It's important to seek a hospital that is equipped to provide the necessary support and services for survivors of sexual assault.
