I’m At The Hospital…What Happens Now?
When you go to the emergency room at any of the hospitals listed above, inform them you are there for a Sexual Assault Nurse Examination (SANE), which is also called a medical forensic exam. They will take you to a private area where the exam will be performed and you have the right to have a DARCC advocate present with you every step of the way.
Our role is to accompany survivors of sexual assault at the hospital and provide information, resources, and immediate crisis support. DARCC advocates offer emotional support before, during, and after a medical forensic exam.
Can I Get The SANE Done At Any Hospital?
Not every hospital has the resources or trained professionals to conduct a SANE or medical forensic exam. It's important to seek a hospital that is equipped to provide the necessary services for survivors of sexual violence. Please contact us at (972) 641-7273 or the nearest hospital to inquire about their ability to conduct a medical forensic exam.
