Caring for Yourself This Holiday Season

While we hope the holidays are enjoyable for everyone, we understand this time of year may be challenging for survivors of sexual violence.

The Dallas Area Rape Crisis Center offers helpful tips to help you navigate this holiday season.

We also encourage you to take it one day at a time. Your healing and well-being are a priority.

Don't be afraid to contact us if you need support during the holidays. Our 24/7 crisis hotline is always here for you: 972-641-7273.

  1. Set Boundaries: Give yourself permission to decline gatherings, conversations, or interactions that feel uncomfortable. Consider making a list of responses or “exit strategies” in advance.

  2. Create a Self-Care Kit: Pack calming items like tea, a journal, a favorite book, or soothing scents. Keep it close by as a grounding tool.

  3. Plan a Safe Space: If gatherings feel overwhelming, arrange a place to retreat to, whether it’s a quiet room or a short walk outside.

  4. Schedule Time for Yourself: Carve out moments each day for a walk, meditation, or any activity that helps you recharge.

  5. Lean on Your Support System: Reach out to friends, family, or a support group who understand and respect your journey.

  6. Remember You are Not Alone: If you need support, we’re here to help you through this season (and beyond)!

Our 24/7 crisis hotline is always here for you: 972-641-7273.
